Welcome

Welcome to the Athens Chapter of the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association. Our chapter is located in Southeastern Ohio, Athens being our center. Our activities include regular gatherings at area farms which is a great way for people to connect, learn from one another, and see the sustainable diversity in this region. In the spring we have a co-operative seed order and in autumn we have a sale of Thanksgiving food baskets.

Southeast Ohio is known for our great food, local markets, state and national parks, and our community oriented culture. The Ohio Ecological Food & Farm Association is an organization that allows people to learn, connect, and be engaged with one another and our environment. OEFFA was formed in 1979 and is a membership-based, grassroots organization, dedicated to promoting and supporting sustainable, ecological, and healthful food systems.

The current President of the Athens Chapter is Angie Starline. She and her husband Matt own Starline Organics which is a 50 acre certified organic farm that they have operated since 2005. They raise vegetables, fruits, herbs, livestock and grains including sorghum to supplement the diets of non-GMO pigs.

Members of the Ohio Ecological Food & Farm Association is as diverse as the world we live in it include farmers, gardeners, consumers, chefs, teachers, students, researchers, retailers, business owners, and workers from many sectors of society. Together we are working to recreate a regionally-scaled farming, processing, and distribution system that moves food from farm to local fork. The Food Reniassance compliments this Era of Communication, when we eat together we prosper together.

OEFFA provides members with access to a directory to organic and ecological farms, gardens, and related businesses (our Good Earth Guide) and a quarterly newsletter that includes information on OEFFA’s work; state, regional and national news; farm profiles; practical tips; book reviews; resources; events, and more. OEFFA organizes the state’s largest sustainable agriculture conference, hands-on workshops, webinars, and seasonal farm tours of Ohio’s finest sustainable and organic farmers. OEFFA also provides organic certification services for growers, and an apprenticeship program to help students gain hands-on experience. Finally, OEFFA advocates for policies that protect and benefit sustainable agriculture, research and education, farm and farmland practices, and citizens’ right to know.
